Calvary Baptist Church, the friendliest Church in San Diego is located at the intersection of Cesar E. Chavez Pkwy and Julian Street. We are a ministering, worshipping, working and witnessing institution. We have a long history of reaching lost men, women, boys and girls for Jesus Christ. At our very best, we are the family of God. It is His purpose that we serve. It is at His command that we march. It is into His kingdom that we invite others. We are proud to call Him our Father and the Great Head of the Calvary Baptist Family.

Bible: We believe the Bible is the Word of God. Accepting fully the writings of the New and Old Testaments as divinely inspired works. (II Timothy 3:16-17; II Peter 1:20-21)
Sin: We believe man was created in holiness but sinned in the Garden of Eden. The original sinful nature has passed to all men. Therefore, all men are sinners by nature and choice, sinful and lost. We believe man has no possible means of salvation without Christ. (Romans 5:12; Romans 3:10,23; Ephesians 2:8,9; Ephesians 2:1-3; Titus 3:5)
We believe there is one God eternally existent in three persons: Father, Son and Holy Spirit. (Deuteronomy 4:35, 6:4; Matthew 3:16, 17; Psalm 9:7; John 10:30; John 14:26; I John 5:7)
Jesus Christ: We believe in the Deity of Christ; His virgin birth; His shed blood for atonement; His resurrection; His ascension into Heaven to be our Intercessor; His Lordship over all creation. We believe His death made payment for our sin fully and completely and His resurrection is our hope. (John 1:1-3; I John 1:7; Hebrews 9:11-12; I Peter 1:18-19; I Corinthians 15:3-4; Romans 8:34; Hebrews 7:25; Matthew 28:18; Philippians 2:9-11; Philippians 2:6-7; Romans 4:25; Isaiah 53:4-5)
Holy Spirit: We believe the Holy Spirit convicts of sin, makes believers children of God through the new birth assuring them of Heaven, and by His indwelling enables Christians to live a Godly life. (John 16:8-11; Titus 3:5; I Corinthians 12:13; I Corinthians 6:19,20; Romans 8:14,16; Romans 8:1-4; Galatians 5:16; Ephesians 5:9,18)
Salvation: We believe in Salvation by grace through faith - that salvation is the free gift of God, not by any virtue or works of man, but received only by personal faith in the Lord Jesus Christ. We believe all true believers possess the gift of eternal life, sonship in the family of God, and the divine guarantee that shall never perish. (John 3:16; Ephesians 2:8,9; Titus 3:5; John 1:12; John 10:28; John 3:18; I Peter 2:24)
Baptism: We believe baptism is the act of obedience in which believers, in Christ, give symbolic testimony to our new life in Christ Jesus. It is also our belief that scriptural baptism is held to be only by total immersion of a believer. (Acts 8:38; Romans 6:4)
Satan: We believe in the existence of Satan, the deceiver and god of this present world; that he was defeated and judged at the cross, and therefore his final doom is certain. (John 8:44; Job 1:6-12; Job 2:1-8; II Corinthians 4:4; Ephesians 2:2; I John 3:8, 4:4, 5:18; Rev. 20:10)
Second Coming: We believe in the second coming of Christ; the time being unrevealed but always imminent. We believe that when He comes, He will first resurrect the dead and the translation of the living remove from the earth His waiting church; then pour out the righteous judgments of God upon the unbelieving world; afterwards descend with His church and establish His glorious and literal kingdom over all the nations for a thousand years. (John 14:1-3; Acts 1:1; I Thessalonians 4:13-18; I Corinthians 15:51-57; Rev. 6-19; Rev. 19:1-20)
Fellowship: We believe in the spirit of fellowship among the saints. We have established a Covenant with one another in Christ Jesus. [back to top]
Win the Lost and Edify the Saints
Having been led, as we believe, by the Spirit of God, to
receive the Lord Jesus Christ as our Savior, and on the profession of our
faith, having been baptized in the name of the Father, and of the Son and of
the Holy Spirit, we do now, in the presence of God, angels and this
assembly, most solemnly and joyfully enter into covenant with one another as
one body in Christ.
We engage, therefore, by the aid of the Holy Spirit to walk together in
Christian love; to strive for the advancement of this church in knowledge
and holiness; to give it a place in our affections, prayers and services
above every organization of human origin; to sustain its worship,
ordinances, disciplines and doctrines; to contribute cheerfully and
regularly, as God has prospered us, towards its expenses, for the support of
a faithful and evangelical ministry among us; the relief of the poor; and
the spread of the Gospel throughout the world. In case of difference of
opinion in the church, we will strive to avoid a contentious spirit, and if
we cannot unanimously agree, we will cheerfully recognize the right of the
majority to govern.
We also engage to maintain family and secret devotion; to study diligently
the word of God; to religiously educate our children; to seek the salvation
of our kindred and acquaintance; to walk circumspectly in the world; to be
kind and just to those in our employ, and faithful in the service we promise
others; endeavoring in the purity of heart and good will towards all men to
exemplify and commend our holy faith.
We further engage to watch over, to pray for, to exhort and stir up each
other unto every good word and work; to guard each other's reputation, not
needlessly exposing the infirmities of others; to participate in each
other's joys, and with tender sympathy bear one another's burdens and
sorrows; to cultivate Christian courtesy; to be slow to give or take
offense, but always ready for reconciliation, and being mindful of the rules
of our Savior in the eighteenth chapter of Matthew, to secure it without
delay; and through life, amid evil report, and good report, to seek to live
to the glory of God, who hath called us out of darkness into his marvelous
light.
When we remove from this place, we will engage as soon as possible to unite
with some other church, where we can carry out the spirit of this covenant
and the principles of God's Word.
